Paperback Painter?
I first started painting paperback books that I had lying around my studio in 1986. (My wife Dee is an avid reader.) I cut out masonite panels and gesso them with a roller. It was cheap and I liked the smooth surface. At the time, I was strongly influenced by Wayne Thiebaud, who's work I had seen in San Francisco when I lived in Antioch in 1979. I sold most of my original book paintings years ago except for a few, which I just recently sold on Ebay. People seem to like them and I like painting them, so I am painting some new ones. It is fun to watch people who are running garage sales stare at me as I buy books by their colors. Here are some new 11" x 14" paintings (I paint one size only because I like the scale.). They are all acrylic on gessoed board. I sign them on the back to keep my ego away from the images.
